Find a registrar
You acquire a fi-domain name through a registrar. The registrar registers the domain name on your behalf and takes care of related matters, such as renewals. The search service lists all registrars that have registered with Traficom - there are over 3,000 of them in Finland.
From a registrar you usually also get additional services related to your domain name, such as email, web hosting space and name servers.
How to choose a registrar
Registrars differ in pricing, range of services and customer service. Compare at least the following:
- Additional services: whether, in addition to the domain name, you also need email, web hosting space, name servers or a DNSSEC service, for example.
- Customer service:the language and availability of support, and help when problems arise.
- Price and contract terms Compare the total cost, not just the opening price..
- Star rating: a quick indication of the registrar’s level of service and information security (see below).
- Extra features, such as automatic renewal reminders or services aimed specifically at private individuals.
What does the star rating mean?
The star rating is based on an assessment of registrars that Traficom carries out each year. It reflects matters that are particularly important to consumers and small businesses: customer service, range of services, user guidance and information security. A registrar can receive 0 to 5 stars, and the rating is shown with the registrar’s details in the search service.
